My Foodie Pen-Pal Package Arrived!
I got home from work a few days ago and there was an inconspicuous package sitting on my front porch. Having recently had started a new job, I have been getting packages of all shapes and sizes lately, but I am almost always expecting them and it is usually something I have ordered for the home office.
This one was different. The address was hand written in pen, it was from Michigan. Mitten, Michigan! It was from my Foodie Pen-Pal which I discovered while doing some blog surfing.
http://www.theleangreenbean.com has a monthly program where you send and receive food items from a mystery pen pal. My Pen-Pal for April was a woman named Alicia and she sent me some very thoughtful products representing both where she grew up in Michigan, as well as where she went to school. The box had 2 beverages. Faygo Cream Soda, and Vernor’s Ginger Ale. Both the flavors are favorites of mine! I am familiar with Vernors products as we do see them in stores from time to time here, but the Faygo is new to me. The Vernor’s Ginger ale came complete with a recipe card for the “Boston Float” which is apparently a Flint, MI original concoction. I am sure it will be delicious and maybe even make a theme menu for an upcoming New England Patriots game day beverage.
The next item was Marie Catribs Gluten Free Pancake Mix. http://mariecatribs.com/ Her operating principals were listed on the website and the first one seems like a pretty good one to live by; “Our idea from day one has been to create, produce and serve super great, full-flavored food that has a beginning, middle, and finish to every bite. Everything at Marie Catrib’s is ruled by taste. ” If I am ever in Grand Rapids, I will be sure to check out this place.
My final item was Traverse City Cherry Preserves. What an amazing treat these cherry preserves are! I could not resist trying them on an english muffin in the morning while enjoying my coffee. A wonderful blend of sweet and savory, these preserves make me wish I had visited the area so I could have a memory to go along with the taste. These guys pay serious homage to the cherry! http://www.cherryrepublic.com/
I was very happy with my first Foodie Pen-Pal package I received. Needless to say, I will be participating again next month.
